Taking a Holiday in Cornwall

Even though for many years now Cornwall has been looked upon as a place where you go for what would be considered a traditional seaside holiday. Today as you will soon discover things have drastically changed in the last few years. Cornwall holidays now offer you much more than just sun (when it shines), sea and sand, there are plenty of other activities you can get involved during your stay there.

Yes, you can still spend time on the beach enjoying the sand, sea and sun, but today there is so much more for you to do. If you want, you could actually learn to surf or windsurf as it offers some of the best winds and waves around the shoreline of Britain today.

Along with the water, sports there are plenty of other activities and places of interest that you can visit. Also today, some of the countries most well known chef’s including Rick Stein have restaurants located in some of the towns located around the County. This provides you with the chance to try some superb food at a fraction of the cost you would normally pay in their restaurants in London.

However, the county of Cornwall is still a place where many families will go on holiday and there are some superb places to visit during their time there. One place that has become extremely popular since it first opened is “The Eden Project”. This is not only beautiful but is a place to learn about things relating to the effect that global warming is having on our planet. During your visit, you will learn of different ways in which not only the UK but other countries around the globe are working on to help combat global warming and so protect the planet on which we live. The Eden Project has now been ranked as a world heritage site alongside both the Grand Canyon (USA) and Taj Mahal (India).

The other great thing about holidaying in Cornwall is that no matter where you situate yourself you are never very far from the coast. Plus a short drive away and you can soon be visiting other locations based in the county of Devon, which has some really spectacular countryside for you to view.

But yes, you can spend your time on the beach whilst staying in Cornwall but if you want to see a little more of what Britain has to offer then take a visit to Dartmoor or Bodmin Moor. Here you will be able to view some of Britain’s native animals and for some you may actually find yourself spotting the Beast of Bodmin also.

What is a Kiddush Cup?

Next to lighting candles on Friday just before sunset, or singing Shalom Aleichem, the Kiddush cup is among the most common symbols of the Jewish Sabbath. The word Kiddush is derived from the Hebrew word Kedushah, which means holiness or separation. Reciting Kiddush marks the special nature of the Sabbath day.

In Judaism, the Sabbath is considered set apart from the rest of the days of the week. The Bible commands “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.” Kiddush then is a ceremony in which the holiness of the Sabbath or of a holiday is proclaimed. The Talmud interprets this to means that the holiness of the Sabbath must be recognized in speech.

Reciting or singing it is considered a positive commandment or mitzvah. Men and women are obligated to recite it, though in a married household, the husband will recite it. While reciting it is the most important element, a custom from the early rabbinic period sees the act of sanctification as being tied to saying blessing for a glass of wine before the evening meal. The drinking of wine, in addition to some additional paragraphs makes up what is known as the Friday evening Kiddush.

According to the Talmud, Kiddush can be traced back to the time of the Great Assembly. The existence of discussions dating from the first century of the Common Era on the subject of Kiddush make it clear that the ritual is ancient.

At the beginning of Sabbath two loaves of bread are laid down in memory of the double portion of manna that was gathered on Friday, with a white cloth under and over them. There is no true Kiddush except at the place of the meal. There is a custom however among some communities to pronounce Kiddush at the end of the evening service in the synagogue.

Although the Talmud states that strong alcoholic drinks other than wine are not “ideal”for the recitation of the Kiddush , such drinks, out of necessity, once took the place of wine in some northeastern European Jewish communities. For most communities it is better if wine is not available, to pronounce the Kiddush over the Challah bread than to substitute beer or other alcoholic drink.

It is customary to recite the Biblical passage of Genesis. 2: 1-3, which details the act of creation, before reciting Kiddush. This is in keeping with the Talmudic dictum that one who recites it makes himself, in a sense, a partner with God in the act of creation.

A kiddush cup is used in other ceremonies where drinking wine is part of the occasion or ritual. These includes Havdalah (the ceremony demarcating the end of the Sabbath from the coming week), as well as at weddings ceremonies, among others.

The beliefs and feelings we have about ourselves is called self-esteem. Our methods of motivation, attitudes, emotional judgments, and actions are all affected by the way we perceive ourselves.

Self-esteem includes other qualities, such as self-confidence, pride, independence, self-reliance, and self-respect. Experts say we develop our self-esteem during childhood, and it constantly evolves as we are shaped by the different social interactions and experiences we go through.

Even though our later relationships with our peers and other adults may impact our self-esteem, the most important thing parents can do is to allow a child to feel as though they can be themselves in an emotionally and physically safe environment.

Positive interactions and relationships with parents, teachers, and other adults is the basis for good self-esteem in children. These adults can influence children’s self-esteem by giving constructive and positive feedback to children when they accomplish a task. A “Congratulations” or “Nice job” is all it takes to build this vital skill.

Children who feel that they are competent often feel as though they are accepted, which is also an important part of building good self esteem in children. By keeping your child involved in challenging activities, and encouraging them to try even when they may fail is an important way to encourage personal growth. A child who constantly succeeds at simple, unchallenging tasks may feel as though he shouldn’t even try to accomplish more difficult tasks.

Even though your child may misbehave, you can still bolster their self confidence and self-esteem by explaining to them that their behavior was unacceptable, but they are still loved and accepted. When you talk to your child, there are several things you can do to effectively communicate and boost positive self-esteem.

1. Give “Don’ts” as little as necessary Handing out too many negative remarks will leave a child feeling inadequate. Keep your responses as positive as possible.

2. Listen to your child. Parents often make the mistake of thinking their words are more important than their child, which makes child has lower self-esteem.

3. Give eye contact Kids want attention. When you look a child right in the eye, they know you are listening. It gives them the idea that you are interested in what they have to say, even if you aren’t.

4. Make sure you have conversations One person shouldn’t do all the talking. Likewise, kids must learn only one person should talk at a time. Everyone can’t speak at once. Make sure they know that if more than one person is trying to talk, they won’t understand a thing.

5. Keep your cool. Make sure you wait to talk to your child when you are calm and relaxed. Speaking to a child when you are angry will only feed the flames of conflict.

6. Criticisms should still be present. We should also take notice of shortcomings or misbehavior as we see it or learn about it. Explain why an action is not acceptable, and allow kids to think of ways to avoid doing it again.

Last Chance Ideas To Look Great This Summer.

With the summer holidays rushing towards us, you have only just got time to get into shape so that you will look good in your swim wear. Owners of a gym membership can always start to go again but it is not worth taking out expensive membership now. Lets face it if you are not a member now you will only let it lapse until next year. There are other ways to get in shape that won’t cost a fortune.

Think about your daily routine and how you can incorporate exercise into. Those who work in offices should stop using the lift and use the stairs instead. To get into a routine, just use the down stairs to start with. As you get used to that, start leaving the lift one floor early to walk up, increasing to two floors and so on. If you work on the ground floor, then try getting off your bus one stop earlier and walking the rest of the way and do the same on the way home. Tube travellers have more of a problem but try using the down stairs for a while before attempting the often long and steep stairs up. This strategy will takes longer so be prepared to start out earlier to give yourself enough time to get to work. It is easy to fall back into bad habits.

That has given the legs a work out, now for the arms. As you leave the supermarket, try to get an even amount of weight of shopping in each hand. As you walk lift your arms slowly until they are straight in front of you, hold for a few seconds and slowly drop back. Then you repeat the exercise with your arms now out from your sides. Do this as many times as you can before you reach your car or whilst waiting for the bus or taxi. The odd looks you receive will be far outweighed by the flattering comments you will get in your bikini.

One of the areas often overlooked is the face. Sure you apply moisturiser and make up but you need to do more. Start doing a few facial exercises, isometric are best, as these will increase the muscle tone and give your face a better definition. This is not just for the older faces, young faces will benefit as well because a few well chosen facial exercises done now will keep your good looks for longer.

Sun is the enemy of skin. It dries it and tans it so don’t forget to use a good blocker when lying out on the beach. Remember that your face will have taken sun even when it is overcast. You don’t have to stay indoors all the time but you do have to monitor the amount of sun you take as it does have an ageing effect on the skin and there is a risk of skin cancer.

From the head to the toes, as soon you will be wearing a lot of open shoes and sandals, it is time to give yourself a pedicure. If your money will stretch that far, why not treat yourself to a professional one. If you want to save money you can always do it yourself. Why not make a night of it and pamper your toes as you watch your favourite TV show.

Dieting is not something that should be rushed into, especially those crash diets as you will be robbing your body of the vital minerals and vitamins that it will need to help recover from the sun. In fact if you eat foods rich in beta carotene, three to four weeks before you go on holiday, it will positively assist the tanning process. he foods to look out for are: cantaloupe melons, romaine lettuce, fresh thyme, broccoli, sweet potatoes and, of course, carrots. Increasing your intake of vitamin C will also help, but it is better to eat fruit rather than taking supplements as it contains beneficial soluble and non-soluble fibre. Using fruit as snacks means that you can remove sweets, crisps and other junk food from your diet and drinking water instead of sugary colas and other sodas will also help you to loose weight.

If you still need convincing, perhaps try on your swimsuit from last year and look in the mirror. Whilst you are looking, check out the summer clothes. Keep the classics but ditch those that were only a passing phase. Do a little retail therapy and get some new threads, remembering what will mix and match from last year. It is amazing what can be revived. Throw in a couple of pairs of shoes and maybe top it off with a rakish hat and you are ready to take on the world.

Beating The Breast Cancer Survival Rate

Breast cancer is something that can happen when you are so busy with many different things that you don’t realize it until it’s sometimes too late. Some people will feel no pain at all, which is sad because most breast cancer will have no pain and nothing showing until it is already too late.

Do not sit assured that you will not develop the cancer; whatever you age of family history be. They may just increase or decrease your risk of getting it, but to be safe, get regular checkups, lest you wake up one morning to find a slightly limp breast and discover you are at an advanced stage of breast cancer.

It is very encouraging finding and talking to a person who has survived a bout of breast cancer, whether it is you or someone you know who has it, it can lend a sort of strength to get through the hard times when you didn’t think it would be possible. You will need this strength to stand up to the people who may belittle you, or try to tell you that having it is no big deal.

Some people honestly do not know how to handle something like this and that is ok. Not everyone is meant to understand and empathize, if they were the world would be in a constant state of grief and sadness. You will need to be strong in order to talk to the doctors and get the information as to what treatments are available and how the treatments are going. This is your only body, you want to make sure you are doing all you can to help it.

You can survive anything you put your mind to, and breast cancer is defiantly one of them as to all the people who have survived it can attest to. It is ok to feel scared, everyone gets scared sometimes, the trick is not to bottle it up. If you have breast cancer, you are already sick, and bottling up fear or sadness will only increase the amount of stress your body is having. No one will fault you for being sad some days or wanting to vent your frustrations or fear, which is a part of healing and it actually does help.

Do not think of your disease. Forget that you are ill. It is matters of your life, yes, therefore live every second of it, even if you’re physically ill. Revert all your energies to things you love, to things that make you happy, cultivate your gardening or reading or fashion designing hobby, be with friends you love to be, and those who make you laugh. You will discover your disease not governing you anymore, and your well-wishers will always be there to ensure your cancer gets treated, and you get healed.

Fiberglass swimming pools may not be your choice due to the restrictions on shapes they come in. There are many shapes, colors and even depths and stair layouts to choose from. They cannot be designed as uniquely as concrete or the vinyl liner pools can be. So choose what shape you want first before choosing what material you want your pool made out of.

On the downside fiberglass pools do not survive well in the colder areas. Water needs to be left in to a certain level in fiberglass pools or else they have problems. In the areas where winters are so very cold this is not a good thing. So for these types climates the vinyl-lined or concrete is recommended. Check with a pool professional to see what pool material is recommended for you are.

Designing A Home Theatre Room

Every generation decides its own living style and home designs change to revolve around that. Where at one time the television was confined to a corner in the room, today’s homes have a special room assigned to it along with its accompaniments. Here are some tips on designing a home theatre room for modern living.

Consider choosing a large room that is rectangular in size. You may also want high ceilings to make the room feel more authentic, more like an actual movie theatre. Also, to allow for increased noise you will probably need to add some type of soundproofing device or equipment.

Putting a home theater in an existing room in your has does not have to be a big deal. Basements are the perfect option with little to no windows make it easy to keep out the light. If you don’t have a basement or a windowless room all that is needed is heavy drapes to keep the light out.

Ideally, the home theatre room should be a separate space for only entertainment systems, such as video and audio. If possible, it should be in a remote part of the house, so the sound doesn’t disrupt other family members when it’s in use. There should be enough room for your television and seating for several people. Most important, when designing a home theatre room, remember that it should be sealed off from light sources, to enhance the viewing experience.

Naturally, you’ll want to get your stereo TV and surround sound equipment but that is for another article entirely. You should do some research to determine which electronics best fit your needs and also learn how to set up the equipment.

When designing a home theatre room it does not just involve the size and electronics but also the finishing touches because that is what will make an ordinary room into a theater. Try buying some vintage movie posters and make sure you have comfortable seating (preferably theatre style). For lighting you can use sconce lighting that will match with the equipment. Try to make the room look as much like a theatre as you can and you’ll have a unique entertainment room that will give you hours of enjoyment.
