I guess you can say that smoking Cuban cigars was simply my destiny. I mean I grew up in a family of third generation Cuban cigar smokers. Their not many of us. Plus the ones that are, they are not into Cuban cigars. After all, it is a pleasure that is reserved for only the selected few. Yes thanks to my bloodline, it wasn’t long that when I personally got started into smoking Cuban cigars, I was hooked just like the rest of my family. I guess you can say that smoking Cuban cigars is part of our heritage.

Me and Cuban cigars go back like baseball and Babe Ruth. We are just meant to be and I have a history that can back that claim up really good. Montecristo cigars first began to be produced in 1935 by a man named Garcia Menendez in Havana, Cuba. At this particular time, he was also the owner of the H. Upmann cigar brand which was extremely popular. The name for the Montecristo cigars came from the novel, the Count of Monte Christo which was very popular reading during that time, especially among those that rolled cigars.

The H. Upmann cigars can actually be found in two separate companies that share the same name. The first of these is manufactured in Cuba and the other is made in the Dominican Republic. The only thing that these two cigar companies really share is a name and when most people think of the H. Upmann cigar brand, they consider the one that is rolled in Havana, Cuba.

Romeo Y Julieta cigars began in 1875 with the business organization of Alvarez y Garcia creating Cuban cigars just for the local smokers in Havana. It’s incredible but the Romeo Y Julieta cigars were never suppose to be shipped to the world that existed outside of the border of Cuba. Ask yourself though, how long can you keep an amazing thing quiet for years, I mean the bubble had to burst some day.
